These are not identical cases. Quite likely your son's burn was a partial thickness burn which would have healed over pretty well with conservative treatment, without leaving much residual scar.
To completely remove a carcinoma requires a full thickness wide excision to ensure all margins are clear of tumour. Its often going to leave a scar.
