I work in an industry that needs traffic counts which are typically conducted by laying tubes over the road. I can't remember the last time that we got back all of the data, as normally the tubes break or something goes wrong. It's a massive pain in the ass, the whole process sucks and it's unreliable.
I've heard of people using Cameras when they can't get access to the road to install the tubes. I think video data normally gets sent to India etc. to get analised in near real time by cheap labour. It's a shocking waste of time.

BRN should be talking to RMS and companies like Austraffic and Skyhigh to get a better solution, but what do I know.
