On the topic of Japan and Tamiflu, there was an unfortunate case widely reported yesterday on the morning news stations on Japanese TV of a 5 year old boy who had died due to Swine Flu. He had received four doses of Tamiflu.
There was a panel discussion on one of the stations concerning Tamiflu, Relenza and the Swine Flu vaccination which is now available. They made mention of the limited stock of Relenza in Japan. There was also mention of a new treatment that is pending approval but should be available early next year (whilst not mentioned by name, I assume this was a reference to Lani).
The sad fact is that a 5 year old has died. But if there is a positive, hopefully it will enable the fast tracking of the Lani approval process as, from memory, one of the studies (Phase II or III) was conducted on children aged under 10 and the results seemed to be positive.
