Im not sure if BG thought that he was building the next Super Prime.
I think he had so much faith in the technical merits that he thought build it and they will come.
Upsizing the manufacturing base of EOS to be a billion dollar revenue company.
If it wasnt for Covid and Governments just not being able to run procurement processes then who knows where we may be. How long has our US plant been ready to go but STILL waiting for US security clearance? Then again, seems BG blindly had the optimistic assessments around these processes and fed this to shareholders. The delay in Land 400 Phase 3 jsut shows how this can happen though in terms of projects and timeline.
the simple fact is that in a time of delayed contract wins on the Defence side he bet big on Spacelink. Again he blamed the credit crunch and interest rates rising and the breakdown in the SPAC market- fact is he was financially naive to not pick a partner from day one BEFORE hiring and spending left right and centre ($100m?) and become a minority interest at least on constellation one. The Board, including Bart, signed off on the project so they must have thought funding and customers were coming and they cant hide behind the CEO. Is their job to test the CEO. I would think if we had a Board with more commercial sense they may have tested the financial risks particularly on Funding. EOS clearly needs more Board renewal as well. Shareholders were fed a timeline and it didnt eventuate- someone needs to be responsible.
So ultimately he may have been a couple of years early on Spacelink as you are now seeing a lot of developments on the US government side around Spacelink but the FDA in service date became a curse perhaps as they raced to get ready.
It makes sense then for a back to basics capital conservative model and EOS to win contracts BEFORE spending to meet that demand. IT may be a chicken and egg scenario but hoepfully the technology licensing model now alleviates capital needs going forward. Only upsize to $1bn revenue capacity if we have contracts signed to support that. And mothballing Spacelink pending financing.
