    Differences that spring to mind are:

    BP were drilling ~18,000 feet below seal level (I think). Utah on average is 6,100 above sea level, and may even be much higher where they are drilling.

    BP were drilling for oil, GDN for gas, although in both cases either of them might be happy with the other.

    BP failed to use a blowout protector (I read) and they (or Haliburton) did a pretty poor job of the cementing (I read).

    If any of holes GDN have drilled started gushing oil at the rate of 3 - 5 - 10,000 barrels a day I don't think anyone would be too upset. I haven't been there, but from what I understand of the environment and pictures I have seen, which bring to mind those of the far side of the moon, any change would be an improvement.
