Why is someone more special and deserving just because they have more shares and more money.

In a Utopian world I'd agree but this is the real world and in the real world those with the bucks are the most influential. Quite simply, each share you have gives you the right to 1 vote. Obviously the more shares you have, the more influence you potentially have. How do you or I influence the decisions controlled by the largest shareholders? We can't. That's why companies align themselves with the large shareholders and many don't generally give a frog's fat ass about the rest. That doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't make your opinions known, sometimes companies listen if there is enough unrest, but they'll be pretty much on the pulse as to how much game-changing unrest there is.

No one would put money into owning a share of a company if you were going to get fleeced.

Problem is many do get fleeced, factually most of the speculative companies on disallowed will NOT succeed. As long as you understand this and invest according to the risk, that's fine, but speculative investment is not for everyone. Only you can answer that question for yourself.
