It says quite clearly of a $6 account keeping fee and would be naive to think one could only pay $40pm over 8 months with no cost. Altho on some occassions vendors offer 6 mth / 9mth / 12mth / 24mth on larger purchases at higher merchant fees (10pc +) than the normal rate to offset. The $5 fee is just the version of a late fee.
You need to look at it from a business model perspective. It simply wouldnt be sustainable without this fee given only $40 pm repayment (average loan book recycle of 15% wheres APT recycle in 2 months). Especially if theres only a 3.5% + 30pc merchant fee which is far less than APT. 50/50 split on customer / merchant revenue is the zip model.
Having said this - you could almost mirror the APT model repayment setting with zero fees by setting repayment in zip account 25% upfront and having a slightly higher payment over 30 days as opposed to the 6 weeks (42 days).
