I am wondering whether CSR might be considering an equity buyout (whole or part) at the right price, of Adelaide Brighton with some of the pending proceeds (subject to approvals). Adelaide Brighton is a leading Australian producer of cement and lime, which are key ingredients in some core CSR building products. This would be consistent with the company's model of vertical integration for other products (eg participating in a gypsum jv for gyprock). They may think it justified to control costs and grow margins through the production-to-customer cycle. One concern, however, remains how long the bottom in the construction cycle will last.
