I have a friend who is an avid and very successful vegie grower. She told me about human urine. I asked her if that is what she uses and she responded, well, I no possums have been eating my vegies lately. She is meticulous in her habits so I am sure she is not spraying her vegetables. I am sure there is an alternative way. I have a vegetable patch in a community garden and find that zucchinis are almost possum proof, but not quite. There are tooth marks in the green outer skin sometimes but not any deeper. Apparently, they don't like the prickly furry leaves of the zucchinis.
Most folk use netting, creating their covered wagon structures. I have used same but with stakes (very small plot) but possums jump on the netting and eat through the holes as their body weights press the cloth down.
I eat zucchinis every day and my small plot has netted me some 40 zucchinis over 6 weeks.
