I would suggest a MSc (research) or a PhD for two reasons. The first is that these degrees are free (provided you meet the entry requirements of course) and secondly, given that job prospects are minimal at the moment this gives you time for the industry to cycle back up and as a bonus, you have higher qualifications when it does.
If you do want to work in oil and gas then one of these degrees is generally a requirement.
