    Hi Goblin,

'...views across the ocean and seated somewhere on a mountain or in hinterland. Like Queensland but its the weathers too extreme up north.'

I think a very lovely place is in the Gold Coast hinterland - Tamborine Mountain - it's absolutely lovely, the weather is beautiful one day & perfect the next, it's in close proximity to the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane etc etc.

Tamborine Mountain, our "Island in the Sky"

Located on the edge of the escarpment in the hinterland of Queensland's fabulous Gold Coast, Tamborine Mountain is characterised by its splendid views, pristine National Parks, wineries, world class restaurants, cool climate and relaxed lifestyle.

The name is derived from the Koori term "Dumbirin" (Yam in Cliff).

The first Europeans settled on the Mountain from the late 1870s.

The Mountain attracts those who are focused towards the arts, those who like to work from home, young families looking for a safe environment for their children, retirees seeking the good life and those interested in the tourism trade of cafes, restaurants, B and Bs, wedding venues etc.

The rich, red decomposed basalt soils support a wide range of commercial crops, mainly avocados, macadamia nuts, kiwifruit and rhubarb. The area abounds in beautiful gardens, many of which are members of the Open Garden Scheme. In September the annual Springtime on the Mountain Festival attracts many visitors who come to enjoy the gardens and other attractions.

The population is capped at 9000 with approximately 6500 residents living in one of the three village areas of North Tamborine, Mount Tamborine and Eagle Heights.

Tamborine National Park covers 1160 ha on the Tamborine Plateau and around the foothills. The plateau is 8km long, 5km wide and 525m above sea level. Twelve spearate reserves make up the National Park, which offers accessible attractions such as rainforests, wet eucalypt and open forests, woodlands, picnic areas, lookouts, waterfalls, running creeks and breathtaking views. The native wildlife in the parks includes lyrebirds, platypus, scrub turkeys, lorikeets, whip birds and bower birds.

The Tamborine Mountain Heritage Centre contains seven heritage buildings from the area containing extensive displays relating to local history.

Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens, established in 1983, feature cool climate as well as sub-tropical collections. The gardens are maintained by volunteers from the local community.

    Cheers, Pie :-)
