A FLINDERS Island buyer has spiked the market at Temora, NSW, first-cross ewe sale today with a buy-up believed to be a seasonal auction record.
Andy Maguire, “Golden Hills”, Mirrool, NSW, sold 172 first-cross ewes (May-June 2008 drop, and August shorn) for $192-a-head to Ian Geddes and Co, Deniliquin, on behalf of the Flinders Island buyer.

Colin and Tracey Harper, “Cadell”, Ariah Park, sold 313 head (July 2008 drop and August shorn) first-cross ewes for $183-a-head to the same Flinders Island buyer.

It is believed the so-far unnamed buyer from Flinders Island flew from his home to attend the sale.

The sale was stronger due to the cancellation of the upcoming first-cross ewe sale in Victoria.

A total of 6500 were yarded and about half of these were sold this afternoon at the time of writing.

A shortage of first-cross ewes Australia-wide as well as the buoyancy of the prime lamb market drove the sale.
