"Rock markets are expected to remain tight for at least the medium term, driven by strong demand for phosphate fertilizer and limited additions to phosphate rock capacity.
In late 2011, the Vale project in Peru is expected to begin production with an estimated 3.9 million tonnes of annual rock capacity. Saudi Arabia’s large Ma’aden project is expected to come on stream in 2012 and require years of ramp-up time. After it comes online, price rationalization may take place among those producers reliant on high-cost imported rock."
