Eve , go near top of class for making some sense. Exclusion zones are set but vary by each Gov 1.5-3km but do converge over to protocol safety stand off perimeters during op's. I don't ship watch so apologies not up to speed on all the vessels involved in the drill op's on this drill. You are correct though any support vessel "must" stand off at certain points in op's for obvious reasons inc, highly pressured O/G well ( remember any find may have to be stabilised by fluid ie mud weight holding it down ) / testing any O/G discovery etc. Also in event of a problem due to a find ie BOP communication/ rams failure etc which although is not good generally means they are worried about something in the hole causing potential blow/spill issues. I find this unlikely as the Ice had BOP comms issues and top drive bearing issues during BPC drill earlier this year and has gone on to further contracts since in interim. Honestly would not read into it too much negatively as any immediate P+A job would need support close by frequently. Could even be principle S doing satellite supply hops from a beach load. Like I said not read whole thread or studied what is being discussed re ship movements so apologies if butting in unnecessarily but if any exclusion zone called by DSV or OIM is there then its for a good reason I am happy about.
