3-D point cloud play raises $4m

A company trying to monetise the use of mapping imagery called “3-D point clouds” is the latest Perth tech story to try backdoor listing on disallowed.

Pointerra, which is backed by some of the team behind Perth’s Nearmap, is set to announce a reverse takeover today through the shell of failed agricultural firm Soil Sub Technologies in a deal valuing it at about $7 million.

It includes a $4 million capital raising, underwritten by Subiaco firm RM Corporate Finance. Pointerra focuses on 3-D point clouds — high definition 3-D modelling used in engineering, oil and gas, construction and the local government areas.

3-D points, created through laser technology to give 3-D “fly throughs” of a large area, take up huge amounts of data, and most business store them away internally and never use them again.



Pointerra, which is aiming to list by December, wants to put the data in its cloud and allow relevant businesses can openly access it, creating a market for the data. Its business model — which it says is unique in Australia —revolves around a subscription or one-off pay-for model.

The company does not currently have any paying clients, or consistent revenue.

Its executive team includes Nearmap investor Dr Robert Newman and Gage Roads Brewing chairman Ian Olson.
