The big question is whether Crisafulli and Co will have the guts to axe this pernicious royalty regime when the chook’s mob are booted out next year. If they do, and here’s hoping, they’ll face big questions about “where’s the money coming from?”. Of course, they could cover the cost (and more) by sacking half of the hugely bloated public service in Queensland, but they’d need to move carefully in doing so. Radical action, however obvious and necessary, does not go down well with most Queenslanders — just ask Campbell Newman!
