I thought it might be a good idea for a thread dedicated to discussing potential farmout/JV partners as posts get lost in the weeds.
I think TotalEnergies is a strong possibility.
As a supermajor, they have the cash and they have invested heavily in sub-Saharan Africa. At the same time, France does not have the history/sanctions that the US does, which makes me think that one of the US supermajors is a low probability. Just today, France and Zimbabwe committed to deepening economic ties between the two countries (https://www.herald.co.zw/france-commits-to-deepening-economic-ties/)
2 days ago, TotalEnergies pulled out of a US$3 billion South African offshore gas project due to the costs of offshore development of the assets. The firm is only just restarting its US$20 billion LNG project in Mozambique after being mothballed for years due to insurgent attacks, and the economic/security viability of the projects is still up in the air. And TotalEnergies has made a number of acquisitions in Africa recently, including announcing yesterday the purchase of stakes in hydropower plants in Uganda, Rwanda and Malawi.
