Base metals on the London Metal Exchange (LME) closed higher led by nickel, as a mineral ore export ban from Indonesia came into effect, posing risks to global supply.
Indonesia is the world's largest exporter of nickel ore, which is used to make stainless steel and feeds China's nickel-pig-iron, or NPI, industry. The ban is aimed at locating ore processing activities in Indonesia in order to export higher-value products and reduce the nation's current account deficit.
