Having said that, I am really glad that I don't own any ERG any more ;-)

Unfortunately, I lack the patience to stay in the shallow end of the blue chips. Playing in the deep end means that you have to make sure you hold onto the floaty things and let go of the bricks, lest they pull you under.

To further stretch the metaphor (no doubt to breaking point!), a sunken brick can be much more easily brought above the water level than it can in the deep end.
