I am all for takeovers but as a long term investor they are very rare. They are not all they are made out to be if we are trading at say 23c the most anyone would offer is probably @31c. After they have built a position. Anyone thinking someone comes along and offers 300% more than what we are trading is not realistic. If you are the buyer the whole idea is to get the other company for as cheap as possible.
My recent experience is Mayne Phama the offer is like 40% above what the shares were trading at before the offer. Like AMI they are sitting on a large pile of cash and long term shareholders are getting royaly screwed. Takeovers are usually opportunistic I would like it if AMI was to do a share buyback or other capital initiative to prevent a takeover.
