But, in my opinion, P.M. Gillard has aged appreciably since taking over the role. Obviously, the strain of office is weighing upon her. I noticed it over recent days, especially.

This is not new. Rudd aged quickly as well when Prime Minister. He seems to have got his youth back now though.

Howard seemed to handle the pressure better than most, although he showed significant signs of strain towards the end of his leadership.

The point is this. Politicians are an egotistical and ambitious group. That's why they choose politics. The benefits and perks don't hurt either, I suppose.

Power does come at a cost though. Is everyone up to the job? Do they fully appreciate the cost to health and family before taking on these important roles? If not, they should.

Pressure and expectation can find you out, if you don't have what it takes. Competent people manage stress much better than those who are merely ego driven.

We will see if those in the present government are really up to the task.

    cheers
