Funds for the roads are extracted via rego and fuel tax. Presumably I should be taxed more somehow because I run very economical cars, and therefore pay less tax than most other users? Because that is what you want me to do with electricity.

Do you think that people who stay connected but use very little electricity should pay more? Someone living by themselves cooking on gas with gas hot water would have a very low bill, but still require the same infrastructure. Surely they should be paying a much higher cost as they are benefitting from infrastructure which they are not paying for?

I say the grid is a dinosaur because according to you it has to be propped up with funding from people who don't use it directly. It is an industry which requires subsidies for its continuation. To charge me for not using something is simply theft in my book - and if I did go off grid then at least I wouldn't be worried next time we have floods and lose power for a few days.
