Jantimont, they were in different shires around SEqld and only vacant land, never been built on, however there were water charges from all councils.

Further all irrigation water pretty much Australia wide is now charged partA partB, part A is paid whether you use or not and is supposedly for infrastructure/service fees 90%, whilst part B 10% is for actual usage. This is designed to ensure authorities get the majority of the money in against their budgets etc, whether the water is used or not. We even have to pay if they are out of water and cannot even supply or water is low and we are on cutbacks, still pay 90% regardless plus usage. Certainly does nothing for water conservation, when it is available. And of course we charge more for our product in the market place to cover the unnecessary costs. Same that will happen with the power. Every single thing you buy will be increased in price due to higher electricity costs, because the grid is not operating to its proper level of efficiency.

As for the grid, it wouldn't have to be propped up if everyone had no choice but to be on it. The grid has been constructed, needs to be maintained, is essential to the operation of the state and everyone should be on it. Then it is not subsidised, the same as it wasn't subsidised when we had cheap power, before the govt allowed the subsidies on solar and consumption from the grid has dropped. No-one wanted solar until the massive subsidy rort came along. Sales of solar, in seqld at least, have dropped immensely since the subsidies have all but dried up now. Still the grid costs are constant and have to be paid for and we are all members of society.
