    You do realise it is in the best interests of the country to retain the grid.

    The trouble is existing infrastucture eg. highrise buildings, energy intensive industry(not all can open up shop in nevada/deserts), street lights, traffic lights and i imagine there would be more. Will rely on the grid because solar/storage simply wont be practical.

    Then of course it will preclude other forms of power generation , the ablity to transit power between localities would also be a consequence.

    Seems a highly restrictive, inflexible and unviable model to me.
