AssumHere's a thought exercise.
Assume you were endowed with wealth through sweat or luck. Realize the returns your endowment can generate. Consider the ultimate best good you can achieve from said wealth. Does it matter if it's billions? Once you are comfortably taken care of, why wouldn't you rely on your return of investment to direct towards the causes you see fit? Not every billionaire is just pissing it against the wall. Many are shorting stock for their own gain, others are donating to genuine causes. If I were ever in such a position, I would rather direct funds to satisfying Maslow's hierarchy than trust it to an ideological bureaucracy. Potable water for all is my endeavour. That's where my charity begins. You?
