I worked at BHP Mt Whaleback at Newman in the 80’s and all of the face shovels and blast hole Drill rigs were electric with trailing cables so it’s a tried and proven method. BHP removed all of the in pit junction boxes and cables to replace them with diesel machines and now they have to run diesel pumps as well in the pits as they don’t have the infrastructure in place now , but I would expect that this will be reinstated in the coming years as they decarbonise.
