These are zero emission autonomous haul trucks! Fuel cell battery and battery-electric technology.

What they're aiming to achieve is to integrate

* A Fleet Management System (FMS);
* Onboard autonomy kit for the T 264 truck; and,
* A high precision machine guidance system for loading equipment

into the trucks, but it won't be limited to just heavy haul trucks.

Not only that, but the system that they're developing is an OEM agnostic solution ie, it will be able to be integrated with any autonomous platform (any vendor in other words) including trucks, drills, watercarts or any other heavy mining equipment.

This is an Autonomous Haulage Solution mate.

And best of all they said it in the news piece below...

"Our collaborative efforts will be beneficial, not only for Fortescue, but for the entire mining industry.”

Once fully developed and tested, they will be able to sell this offering or solution to the entire mining industry!

I'll say it again, this is where they will offset that capex. The future of mining is autonomous electric zero emissions and this is going to be it.
