I would view something like that as a sign of disrespect. It would absolutely kill our relationship that we have developed and nurtured over 20 years. Fortescue are experts in finding and digging up iron ore, China are the steel makers.
Another point, why would Dino be going to China regularly the past few months to openly discuss the potential for a China/Fortescue green steel partnership, only to come back months later to say, sorry, we're thinking of making it on our own?
If I were China, and something like that happened, I know where I'd be sending Fortescue.
This is a perfect marriage mate. Should this potential partnership materialise it won't be a game changer, it'll be a world changer.
