Hi Mikey I.
Mate, ya stressed me out big time when you wrote in your think-piece...."...FMG's commitment to real zero by 2040...." because I tipped a veritable truckload of bucks into Fortescue because of their impressively ambitious 2030 goal. I was surprised to read that you stated the target had been reset to 2040.
In today's Australian Financial Review on page 17, there's an article on our beloved Fortescue which includes the following......"Dr Forrest has vowed that Fortescue will not rely on offsets to achieve 'real zero ' emissions across its iron ore mines by 2030."
I'm emphasising this point because 2040 would represent a significant and disappointing recalibration. I thought that maybe the information I'd sourced after reading your 2040 statement may have been obsolete. However, I was mighty relieved to read Twiggy's quote in
today's AFR because this news is happening now! Hot off the press!
Please feel welcome to correct me if I have somehow misinterpreted what you were saying.Thankyou.If anyone else has any thoughts or facts on this subject, I'd be most interested to hear them.
Our ambitious targets are ultra-important because they also represent a template for the rest of heavy industry to utilise to mitigate the greatest existential threat to our precious and unique Planet Earth and humanity.....global warming.
Don't believe me?.....just ask Florida which is about to face its record-breaking 4th hurricane this season.Well over 200 dead so far.Specialist climate scientists have attributed the changed weather patterns to warming oceans. Climate sceptics can bleat all they like, but I prefer to source my info from scientists who actually know what they're talking about, not overpayed media professional gasbags!
Onwards and upward!Wes
