Natural gas basically requires much of this work, special piping, special welds, special holding and refuelling cells and they still make use of it.
Any high pressure gas tank or cell has a life expectancy due to contraction and expansion forces causing fatigue, nothing new here.
It's not the 1950's we have technology these days to do things we couldn't do centuries ago and or make new processes economical. New developments in the hydrogen world are being developed and patented every day.
