Since more than half of the required hydrogen pipelines will be repurposed from natural gas infrastructure, Germany also plans to construct additional pipelines to maintain a stable natural gas supply during the transition to hydrogen.

Germany's Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) on Tuesday approved a core hydrogen network plan of around 9,040 km (5,617 miles), proposed by the transmission system operators, which is about 600 km shorter than the draft proposal.
