    Nah, when I said "independent" sources, I didn't mean "obviously partisan".

    Also, if you are going to cite anyone talking about that old chestnut, the diesel rebate (which accounts for the overwhelming majority of the claimed "fossil fuel subsidies"), well, that's not a subsidy of the fossil fuel producer industry at all; it is a 50c/litre rebate to diesel consumers (i.e., trucks, buses and trades utility vehicles and farming equipment) whose purpose is to neutralise the fuel excise.

    In other words, instead of being a subsidy, it is merely the non-application of a tax, a measure which has had bipartisan support since the excise was introduced.
    But you'd have to have a very distorted and biased view to call that a "subsidy".

    Of course, the full excise could be applied to diesel, if you like.

    But watch out for the resulting inflationary pulse that would set off throughout the economy, because trucks are often described as the workhorses of the economy.
