China has a long and distinguished history in Patent designing and registration. This history was interrupted by the Industrial Age which was based on Fossil Fuels. That history has resumed. China leads the world in patent registrations, with over 1.6 million applications filed in 2023. Japan and the USA follow with less than a half of China's total.
China's patents are in the clean energy space.
Since 1992 the goal has been to make China a clean energy power house and it is progressing.
China now sees itself becoming the undisputed No 1 economy in the world and they place their trust in Clean Energy. Mr Trump's tariffs are hastening this outcome.
Along the way Coal, Gas and Oil are used. The Chinese are not idealogues, they see the transition working and increasingly their massive force of engineers are working in the Clean Energy space.
You say.................The reason China got involved in the renewable energy business is the same reason China gets involved in making anything required by the West: white goods, televisions, clothing, furniture, toys, medical equipment, electric vehicles etc. etc. etc., namely, to make a buck out of it.
Yes like all of us they want to make a buck, but that is only the start. China knows it will not be No1 following the dirty fossil fuel path.
