QGC was looking good but now its brilliant. $150 million power station contract :
Queensland Gas Company (QGC) and ANZ Infrastructure Services (ANZIS) have entered into an Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contract with Austrian Energy and Environment to build the Condamine Power Station. Siemens will supply two SGT 800 gas
turbines and one steam turbine, and the combined cycle gas fired facility will have the capacity to generate 140 MW.
The contract is value at $150 million. It is scheduled to commence generating electricity in August 2009. The actual construction phase will take 24 months. QGC Managing Director, Richard Cottee noted that this development represented a major milestone for the Company, which is now committed to power generation at a time of increasing
demand for clean energy. Mr. Cottee said, “Condamine Power Station will be a base load gas fired facility that will supply the National Electricity Grid with enough electricity to power 4 million homes. With its location on QGC’s gas fields near Chinchilla. The Condamine Power Station
located in the Murilla Shire 8 kilometre east of Miles, will be a low cost producer and very energy efficient. QGC will also be able to maximise its revenues through having the capacity to switch from base load generation to peak load only if it proved more profitable to sell the gas directly,” Mr. Cottee said.
