Below is an updated status on Bella, the PAA mascot.
Bella is now a 12 years old happy and healthy dog.
Bella was diagnosed in 2015 with Hemangiosarcoma a very aggressive Cancer with a high mortality rate.
The median survival is 3 to 6 months , with a 10% survival of 12 months if chemotherapy and surgery used in conjunction. Metastastic issues are included where if the Cancer is left untreated or even treated , the Cancer will spread to the Liver/Spleen and Heart. It is a death sentence for the dog, except in this case.
Bella’s owner has elected to give Bella daily doses of base Zolvix /Monepantel by using gelatine capsules , dose being 3.6 ml in total, so 4 tablets of 0.9 mls .( initially the dose was 5 tablets)
Bella initially had what is thought to be elevated liver enzymes but was placed on a special diet and her increased liver enzymes were lowered to a satisfactory level.

Now, initially the evidence parameters showed that this treatment was anecdotal and we all wished for the best. It now has transversed to causal evidence . Causal evidence is where one documents a relationship , between an activity , treatment and intervention and it’s intended outcomes, this includes measuring direction of size of change , and to the extent of how an activity has changed the variable.
This is excellent news for PAA and subsequent very long term treatment plans for our Canine friends. In this case the under dog won, and Australians love these stories ( truths) .
On a side note, Thoroughbred horses also have Hemangiosarcoma issues occasionally, so is there a market. Well, at the moment horses do not have the same worm type as sheep etc. Thus there are no studies on Horses, but to say when Horses are given full blood assays MPL is picked up in the blood , I surmise by eating grass infected by sheep business.
In theory , I believe it is a warranted avenue if ones horse is besieged by Hemangiosarcoma. On the bottle of Zolvix it says for animals only.
Hemangiosarcoma is rare in humans.
So, in conclusion, isn’t this an awesome story for the owner and his family. They have tried an untested compound on a rare vicious disease and have beaten the odds.
