Conclusion from the Irish article cited:
"Conclusion
Nutrition can influence the cows resistance to mastitis.
However, it does not influence the exposure of teat ends
to pathogens. Mastitis control begins with implementation
of the five-point control programme as well as providing
a clean dry environment for cows. Ensuring that the cow
has adequate energy, minerals and vitamins for optimal
milk production is essential for the maintenance of udder
health and immune status. However, it should be noted
that if mastitis control practices are poor then these will
outweigh any potential influence of energy balance, mineral
or vitamin status. A holistic approach to mastitis control
should be taken and nutritional management is but one
part of the control programme."
Basically from this I draw the same conclusion I stated above because this article states that good husbandry (i.e. good nutrition, proper facilities, handling, attention to details like teat dipping, mud in yards, good genetics, general cleanliness etc.) reduces the incidence of mastitis.
Active mastitis still must be treated with antibiotics.
The somatic cell counts being high in certain herds indicate more subclinical mastitis (not detected)and the aim of the supplement is to increase the immunity in udder and teats and thereby reduce the incidence of clinical mastitis.
Nutritional supplements are alone not beneficial therapeutically (as stated in the website) and antibiotics must be used on clinical mastitis, or if severe cull the cow from the herd. Mastitis infection destroys mammary tissue and the more tissue permanently destroyed the less milk the cow produces and ultimately she becomes uneconomical and has to be replaced.
I still would like to see biochemical data but I still see this product as a support product and not a treatment.
