    Denglish,

I suspect POH and MMA are constrained with what they can say at the moment, but I have spoken to MMA and they said all of the science behind this will be released shortly, so its only a matter of time. And they have a heap of peer papers for you to read up on the subject, to see what other scientists have done in the area

There is nothing new in this science, there are a plethora of papers on it over 30 years, the difference is this time they are using TPM to drive it and apparently the outcomes are very exciting. According to the papers they have attached, In herd based experiments antioxidant supplementation has also been demonstrated to reduce mastitis incidence. It is therefore no coincidence to see the correlation between mastitis incidence and deficiency of antioxidants

What POH and MMA are using in TPM is a powerful form of Vitamin E,
which is why we are all here isn't it?

Vitamin E is the powerhouse of antioxidant vitamins. Studies over the last 20 years have shown that free radical fighters found in a certain group of nutrients, namely antioxidants, can protect against a great many free radical initiated issues. Antioxidants extinguish free radicals!

Free Radicals cause oxidation in the blood. Once oxidation occurs, disease can result. Antioxidants keep free radicals from causing oxidation in the blood, thus neutralizing disease. Also, stress, chemical pollution, environmental pollution, and the normal aging process increase the demands put upon the immune system.

Studies indicate antioxidants do more than protect against free radicals; they also stimulate the immune system's response to help fight existing issues in animals.

Antioxidants are commonplace in nature. In fact, antioxidants are abundant in more common vitamins such as retinol or Vitamin A, ascorbic acid or Vitamin C, tocopherol or Vitamin E, and selenium. They can be nutrients (vitamins and minerals) as well as enzymes (proteins in the body that assist in chemical reactions).

Antioxidants are believed to play an important role in preventing the development of chronic illnesses in mammals.

How antioxidants work is a two-way process. First is the chain-breaking. This is where the antioxidant comes in to break the chain reaction of free radicals turning other molecules into free radicals like them. Chain-breaking is also called Stabilization.

The other aspect is more on the preventive side. Antioxidant enzymes like superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase prevent oxidation by reducing the rate of chain initiation. This time, instead of waiting for the free radicals to make a long chain of free radicals, antioxidants scavenge initiating radicals and destroy them before oxidation
is set in motion. Although antioxidants cannot completely rid the animals body of free radicals, they can however work to retard or minimize the damage caused. Antioxidants block the process of oxidation by neutralizing free radicals. By neutralizing, they themselves become oxidized. For this reason, animals are always in need of a constant source of antioxidants.

I find it hard to believe vets are promoting the continued use of anti biotics when its clear they are making their way into the human food chain and causing untold harm, we all know that we need to stop the reliance of antibiotic in humans so it must follow that getting the out of the food chain would be a quantum step forward, but I guess vets would be the lat people to stop the use of anti biotics as they rely on them for their

business model, something you can buy over the counter doesn't need a vet does it?
