    Some insight:

The nickel-cobalt deposit in Kiefernberg is located in the Saxon Granulite Mountains within Deutsche Rohstoff AGs correspondent exploration concession. With 1,270 (!) bore holes, the nickel laterites in Kiefernberg are very well explored and hold a metal content of 34.500 t of nickel, 1.422 t of cobalt and 32.200 t of chromium with an average content of 0,4 % Ni, or of 20.150 t Ni (749 t Co, 15.500 t Cr) with an average content of 0,71 % Ni, respectively. DRAG is currently conducting investigations on how the nickel ore can be bucked in a cost-efficient way wit minimum energy expenses. First laboratory results show great promise. Comparable nickel leaching projects already exist.

The subfield Kiefernberg is composed of the areas Kiefernberg-North and -South. Kiefernberg-North consists of a single large ore body, whereas Kiefernberg-South comprises three smaller ore bodies. The thickness of the surface coverage adds up to between 3 and 12m, in parts more than that. The thickness of the NI-ores varies strongly and ranges from one to 10m and more. The ores are perfectly suited for open pit mining.

Between 1958 and 1972 all known subfields of the Granulite Mountains, including Kiefernberg (North+South), were exhaustively explored by the geology department of the nationally-owned enterprise Nickelhtte St. Egidien. This was carried out by drilling wells at intervals of 25X25m. Further explorations were conducted by the nationally-owned enterprise Geological Research and Exploration Freiberg (Geologische Forschung und Erkundung Freiberg (GFE)). Thereby, 471 drillings were added in the area of Kiefernberg-North and South until 1980. In the area of Kiefernberg-North, the final drilling density reaches approx. 20X20m to 22X22m. In Kiefernberg-South the final drilling density amounts to approx. 20X20m to 30X30m. Both subfield meet the conditions for a GDR B-classification. Classes A and B in the GDR system correspond to "secure reserves" according to UN-classification 331 and "measured resources" according to JORC or NI 43-101, respectively.

Further investigations revealed that there is a nickel containing serpentinite subordinate to these laterites which have an average Ni-concentration of approx. 0,2%. The total nickel content in the area of Kiefernberg adds up to around 260,000 t of nickel (+ 13.000 t Co, 364.000 t Cr).

In the course of archive studies, DRAG has discovered a GFE-report from 1971 stating that an estimated 1.5 million tonnes of serpentinite nickel are located in the whole exploration area "Granulite Mountains"!
