Is it possible that the rise in the SP, which was not so much jogging as galloping, precipitated the trading halt? If there was some sort of agreement to take the placement (assuming that is what is happening), whoever it is has either not necessarily got unlimited reserves or be prepared to part with too much. Leave it another few days and they could easily have been paying... more.
