MANILA (Dow Jones)--PNOC Exploration Corp. (PEC.PH) said Friday that it is preparing to drill a well under Service Contract 63, an offshore natural gas prospect in Palawan in the southern Philippines, together with its joint venture partner Nido Petroleum Ltd (NDO.AU).

PNOC Exploration said its commitment for SC 63, which was awarded to the joint venture in 2006, requires the joint venture to drill one well by November 2012. "The joint venture identified the current window to drill the commitment well to be between December 2011 and March 2012," the Philippine-listed company said.

SC 63 covers an offshore area of 10,560 square kilometes and contains a gas discovery at the Aboabo A1-X well, drilled in 1981 and reported to have flowed gas around 50 million cubic feet per day on test.

PNOC Exploration said numerous play types and structures have emerged from the three-dimentional data the joint venture has collected in recent years in waters between 70 meters and 500 meters deep. It said the joint venture is now finalizing the drilling target, seeking a rig contract and planning a drilling schedule.
