There are a number of"books" refered to in the Bible and it appears that all of us have our names in the"Book of Life" by way of being born. But if you choose death( the wages of sin are death rom 6:23). Now quite obviously, you would think, that no one would choose death but if we hang on to that which causes death then that is our choice. If you go back to the introduction of " death" in the book of Genesis it is clearer. Adam and Eve were able to do what they like but not do one thing- with the warning that they would "die". what do you know they did it- ofcoarse you and I wouldn't have- yeah right! At that moment they "died" spiritually and eventually physically- and so death spread to all mankind as all sin. Getting back to the book thing. So the "Book of Life" contains those who have accepted God's provision for salvation throughout human history and those who have refused GOD's offer, inherit the consequences of that We all start out in "the book" but we decide if we remain in it. By the way God is not some harsh judge in heaven waiting to throw sinners into hell- but is as Peter 3:9 says "The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some would count slowness: but is patient towsrds you, not wishing for any to perish but fo ALL to come to repentance."
