That analogy is weak. My bank essentially doesn't lend other people my money in the form of a house mortgage so that they can happily manipulate stock market prices and in so doing cause me financial losses on my holdings. A home mortgage is just that. It's to buy a home, not for people to manipulate stock market prices and disrupt genuine investors and the companies they invest in. Shorting doesn't fit your motto very well - unless you buy them and hold them! Where's that Ignore button now!
