OK putting definitions of volatility aside we are on the same page, over a number of years the SP will rise and fall. If you are a long term investor, say 3-5 years of more that's fine. I'm not in for the long term so it doesn't work for me. I don't want to be hanging on for years waiting for a recovery but that's the most likely scenario. I'll be selling for a loss with the aim of minimising it. Hope todays SP movement is the start of a rally, I'd give it 50/50.
