This is the scenario I see.
Because of defaults in mortgages, there will be a mass bank and financial institutions selling of houses to recoup losses. This will create a mass market of selling coupled with a demand for cheaper affordable housing. This boom cannot go on for ever, and the time will come as in Japan a few years ago where property prices fell. It might sound unfeasible looking at things at the moment but we are looking at a deck of cards slowly toppling. A relative of mine who lives in California has 2 years to pay off a unit, and would like to come back to Australia. Her asset has fallen in value so much that she cannot sell it without losing heaps. What is happening there will happen here.
