"Well it is time to think about how to prepare."
I would have thought its getting a bit late?
We dont think of ourselves as preppers but over about 20 years we have developed a 200 square metre garden for which we make all of our own fertilizer using worm farms. We have our own heritage seed bank.
This supplies continuous supplies 12 months in advance of things like pickled onions, garlic, beet root, beans, spuds all sorts of pickles chutneys sauces relishes etc. as well as all the normal seasonal vegies. We make our own water keifer, vinegar etc. We turn our lemons into Limoncello and make all of our drink requirements of all forms.
We have a small orchard which includes hazelnuts and walnuts. A few sheep supplements a continual supply of chooks, and guineas for soup, broth and eating. Wildlife supplements if necessary.
We have 5 month supply of household water even if it doesn't rain. Also a pumped hydro supplied micro hydro turbine and 2kw of solar panels which feeds 40kw of vrla batteries to supply our dwelling and workshop with power. We haven't had a power failure in 30 years. We recycle vegie oil to make bio diesel to keep vehicles and a back up backup generator running.
Needless to say we are off grid. We watch events like power failures and mis management by bureaucrats with amusement.
Good luck with, getting ready to prepare now.......
