Of concern is the fact that while Chinese demand for ferrochrome has been increasing, so has its production of the alloy.
Despite having negligible ore reserves of its own, China, according to Dreyer, is investing heavily in its capacity to produce the alloy by establishing its own ferrochrome smelters. And predominantly, the fuel for those Chinese smelters is South African ore." continues
