US President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order this week barring US companies from using telecommunications equipment made by firms posing a national security risk.
At the moment the list includes Huawei and ZTE Corp banned.
Huawei
ZTE Corp
And now the FED are also going after:
China Mobile Ltd
China Unicom
China Telecom Corp
and others.
And the list is expanding.
(Gw comment: I just wonder if CASA (China) has (or will) come under review, and be caught in this investigation).
Federal Communications Commission chairman Ajit Pai said last week he is waiting for the Commerce Department to express views on how to "Define the List of Companies" that would be prohibited under the FCC proposal.
(Gw comment: Reading this definition of views, when it is released, will be very interesting indeed, including for CASA China)
The issue has taken on new urgency as US wireless carriers look for partners as they rollout 5G networks.
At a hearing Tuesday, US senators raised the alarm about Allies using Chinese equipment in 5G networks.
(Gw comment: Someone can confirm this, but I believe CASA China produces 5G equipment in China, possibly for the international market).
(Gw comment: It certainly makes you wonder why NTC is selling out, at a time when many (if not all) wireless carriers in the USA are now currently looking worldwide for 5G Partners. What an opportunity missed this is, by a sad old tired board of directors. NTC could have boomed on the back of these bans, and on their 5G technology).
