    Selective investment in overseas companies is a good idea. Particularly if you have a falling AUD. Choose wisely and avoid US banks. I think US derivatives betting is now estimated to represent $500 Trillion+, if/when they became worthless intangible conceptual $ in a market panic event there wont be sufficient cash in play in the system to pay out the losing side of the bets and you either have to have hyperinflation (Million dollar banknotes printed day and night) or market collapse and debt forgiveness (erase large chunk of capitalisiation) to sort out the problem. We don't have a huge exposure to that in Australia if we continue to invest locally and overseas selectively in companies that deliver real world goods and services and continue to avoid derivative asset exposure.
