Treefeed probably the best way you can have a idea is to ignore alarmist posts and trawl the internet to have some kind of idea of what is going on.

Things look promising at the moment with the west shifting more and more behind the democracy movement and Mubarak's power and influence draining away after his doomed attempt to bully the protesters.

This has only damaged him further and the beating up of journalists is another own goal.

After he is gone it depends on the Egyptian people but they have been impressive over the last couple of weeks. After the first riots they have settled down tried to keep things peaceful forming neighborhood watches after the disappearance of the police.

A fair number went home after Mubarak said he would step down as that was mainly what they wanted. They will be back now as after the attacks they know they cannot trust Mubarak.

The army will be a stabilizing force as well and have sensibly put on the front of staying neutral and they are going to want to stay on the right side of the US as they are getting so much money from them.

Any new regime will have to keep its people happy which means better economic conditions which means supporting the tourist industry and encouraging investment into the country.

After new elections i would expect some kind of coalition whose main priority will be the economy like everywhere else.
