Price earnings, in relation to market sector and the market generally, is the traditional way.
BHP PE is 7.6, market sector is 9.5, all ords is 9.6.
That was on earnings 30/6/2008.
Anticipated 2009 earnings, which may or may not pan out, PE is 4.7.
Your figure of $20.50 gives PE of 3.2 on 2009 earnings.
That's how it all should work.... but at the moment the only value is what the market deems the "value" to be.
